Stop Sex Trafficking – What You Can Do!

January 11 is the National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness.

The historic Wilberforce Act increases penalties against traffickers; expands protections for trafficking victims; requires the Justice Department to produce a model law for states to use in investigating and prosecuting trafficking; provides federal law enforcement greater authority to prosecute trafficking cases; and clarifies that the law cannot be interpreted to say that prostitution is “a valid form of employment.”

Renaissance Campaign Launched! Programs of Service, Membership, Fundraising and Public Awareness.  See the fact sheet.

Women’s Opportunity Awards — This program is Soroptimist’s major service project and aids women seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education. The program helps women who, as the primary wage-earners for their families, must enter or return to the work force. The women may use the awards to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education – including books, child care and car fare. Many Women’s Opportunity Awards winners are domestic abuse survivors who use the funds to help rebuild their lives through improved employment opportunities. Each year, more than $800,000 is awarded through the Women’s Opportunity Awards program.
